PROJECT:
The annual blooming of cherry blossoms (sakura) is a cherished season in Japan, with crowds flocking to parks for flower viewing picnics (hanami). The Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo sits alongside the Meguro River, one of the city’s top sakura viewing destinations, and has been releasing its own sakura-themed limited time merch collection since 2019.
For the 2021 Sakura Collection we provided creative direction and artwork inspired by the tradition of hanami and the various expressions of cherry blossoms that fascinate people. There are 17 pieces in total including tumblers, mugs, blanket and accessories, featuring motifs celebrating cherry blossoms, coffee, and the Starbucks Reserve® brand.

Design & Illustration
The artwork features illustrated icons representing the season, coffee, and the Tokyo Roastery. Our color palette drew on seasonal pinks, and indigo from traditional Japanese textiles.
